As organizations seek to become more data-driven, and more people are accessing data to inform their decisions, it’s more important than ever that everyone is working with the right data. Unfortunately, that is getting harder as data gets bigger and more complex.

We want to help you get the right data to the right users at the right time. That's why Tableau is releasing new data management capabilities this year—beginning with Tableau Prep Conductor as part of our 2019.1 release today!

Now available: Tableau Prep Conductor

You told us you want the ability to schedule and manage flows created with Tableau Prep Builder (that’s the new name for Tableau Prep)—and we listened. Today we are introducing Tableau Prep Conductor, with new scheduling, alerting, and management features to ensure your organization is always using clean and trusted data that is ready for analysis. Prep Conductor is fully integrated with the Tableau platform, allowing analysts and data stewards to leverage the horsepower, permissions, and security of a server environment.

Centralized management — For administrators, we're giving you greater visibility into self-service data preparation across your organization. For IT, Prep Conductor allows you to monitor and set up automatic cleaning processes for your organization’s data, as well as build permissions around data flows and data sources to help maintain governance and compliance at scale. You can keep a pulse on the health of your organization's data sources and centrally managed flows—all through the familiar Tableau Server interface.

Scheduling and sharing flows — Using Tableau Prep Conductor, people can publish flows from Tableau Prep Builder to Tableau Server or Tableau Online, then create a schedule to make sure the data is always fresh and ready to go. Automate flows to create a repeatable process, so there’s consistency in the delivery of prepared data. Users can re-use existing flows rather than duplicating the effort and creating more for central teams to manage.

Governance and visibility — Build rules and permissions around data sharing and refreshes to control access to flows. Prep Conductor takes advantage of the permissions model and infrastructure in Tableau Server, and extends it to control who can view, schedule, download, and run flows in your organization. You’ll also always have a great view of what’s happening with your prep flows. Tableau Prep Conductor provides a historical view of flows' run history so you can easily see successful or failed runs at a glance. Out-of-the-box alerts will notify you if a flow fails. With these monitoring features, you'll know the quality of all your flows and have greater confidence in the accuracy of your data.

Try it today through the Tableau Data Management Add-on

Tableau Prep Conductor is now generally available as part of the new Tableau Data Management Add-on. Coming later this year, the Tableau Data Management Add-on will also include additional data cataloging capabilities. This functionality will help you track all data brought into Tableau so everyone can understand the relationships between your data, data sources, and analytical content.

The Data Management Add-on is included in the Tableau Server trial, and is available in limited release for current Tableau Online customers.

We're committed to helping you scale your analytics investment while lowering the barriers of entry to governed, self-service analytics for everyone in your organization. Learn more about what else is available today with our 2019.1 release.
