Update: The latest Gartner Magic Quadrant of Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms is here! Read the latest report.
We’re thrilled to share Gartner has named Tableau a leader in its BI Magic Quadrant report for the fourth straight year. Gartner evaluated 24 software vendors on 15 criteria for the quadrant.
This year Gartner revamped its evaluation process, placing a heavy emphasis on “modern BI/analytics products.” These are tools that empower business users to connect to data, ask and answer questions, and share their insights without depending on IT. The new criteria reflect a transformational shift in the market with nearly all net-new purchases consisting of modern data-discovery platforms.
We believe Tableau leads among modern analytics products by providing a complete end-to-end visual analytics solution. Users can connect to virtually any data source that even non-technical users can then analyze using our drag-and-drop interface. Anyone can ask and answer questions of their data at the speed of thought, then easily share their insights.
That, in sum, is the purpose of our work here at Tableau. It’s why we pioneered self-service analytics more than a decade go and redefined what’s possible in business intelligence. Our mission is to help people see and understand their data. We believe people are innately curious, and we seek to empower the individual.
In 2015, we introduced Level of Detail Expressions to expand Tableau’s analytical depth, and added a number of new data connections. We also revamped the user experience in Tableau Server and Tableau Online to help people find and interact with content more easily.
All this enthusiasm from business users can sometimes overshadow the new capabilities we brought to IT. For example, we added several features including SAML 2.0 and Kerberos authentication to meet the governance needs of administrators.
As the gold standard for modern enterprise analytics, we enable a balance of self-service and governance. The business and IT no longer have to compromise. IT defines governance, and monitors and manages the platform. And business users answer their own questions knowing they have accurate, up-to-date data and a secure collaborative space.
Tableau offers the best of both worlds, and it’s an approach that works. For the third year in a row, Tableau earned the highest position on ability to execute on Gartner’s Magic Quadrant.
We believe the key to our success is our versatility. Tableau works well across a wide array of organizations, whether the company wants to empower centralized teams to govern content or to empower the business users directly. We help customers take a more agile approach to provisioning and deploying analytics, and our Drive methodology helps customers scale their culture of analytics.
