One great new feature in Tableau 10 is clustering. What was once only available to people who could use complex statistical tools can now be done with a drag and a drop. I know my mean from my mode and what a normal distribution looks like, but like many of our customers, I’m no statistical expert. I wanted to answer a simple question: What exactly is clustering and why would you use it?

Many of us have data in many places, waiting to be understood. That's why we're thrilled to announce we've added even more data-source options in Tableau 10. We want to help you gain value from your data, no matter where it lives.

The Internet of Things has made collecting data easy. The hard bit has been analyzing that data. The applications bundled with IoT devices don’t allow for freeform exploration, and only the coders of the world can write APIs and build infrastructure to get and store the data. Tableau 10 is changing that with its Google Sheets connector.

Bar charts are a staple in data visualization. They are often the first chart type that comes to mind when comparing quantities across discrete groups such as sales amount for different product categories. But there are many cases where you may want to take advantage of the width of the bars and their location along the axis to present more information. For example, if you’re visualizing the number of customers by age group and the age groups are of unequal sizes, you may want to use bars of different width.

How can we, in our businesses, rise above the problems of the UK’s referendum and instead focus on sharing the multiple truths in data? Are your employees able to communicate multiple opinions, based on the multiple truths in a data set?

For those customers running their applications and managing their data in Microsoft Azure, we’d recommend taking a look at Azure SQL Data Warehouse as it’s a massively-parallel processing, high-performance version built for analytics use cases. You can connect Azure SQL Data Warehouse to Tableau through our existing SQL Server connector.

Complex data can make these questions tough to answer even when you have distinct and well-separated groups. Plus the data is sometimes distributed in such a way that it contains no obvious gaps to distinguish groups via manual inspection. The good news: This process just got much easier in Tableau 10. The new clustering feature automatically groups together similar data points.

Tableau 10 includes a new feature that lets you ask additional questions of your data right on the web: web-dashboard authoring! That means you can create dashboards from scratch on the web, then easily share your work.
