Announcing our Student Viz Assignment Contest Round 2 Winners!
We just wrapped up the second round of our Student Viz Assignment Contest and—wow—we were impressed by the results. We received over 250 submissions from students around the world at schools such as Northwestern University (US), National University of Singapore (SG), Khon Kaen University (TH), Carnegie Mellon University (US) and HTW Berlin (DE). We saw topics ranging from from politics to sports to beer. One student even created a Pokemon Pokedex!
Without further ado, the top three winners of a coveted Tableau swag bag are...
First Place
1850 Agricultural Production in Pennsylvania
Heather Myers, Penn State University, Master of Professional Studies in Data Analytics
The judges particularly liked the completeness of vision, storytelling, and design of Heather's viz. The colors were also a great choice, as they green and brown are often associated with agriculture. Learn how Heather created her winning viz.
Second Place
3 Ways to Visualize March Madness
Harpreet Ghuman, University of Maryland, Master of Business Administration
Harpreet is no stranger to Tableau—he was among the winners in the first round of the contest. He showcased some advanced Tableau skills in this viz. What the judges particularly liked is the creativity, beauty, and use of collegiate logos.
Third Place
Russell Westbrook's Historic Season
Logan Wright, Oklahoma State University, BS in Business Administration - Management Information Systems
The judges liked the thorough analysis, use of shapes and imagery, and consistent use of colors. The context on the first story point also makes it easy for someone who is not familiar with the NBA to consume and understand.
