*Tableau Server customers must provide their own LLM to use Tableau Agent capabilities.

Tableau Server customers can access agentic analytics capabilities through two main options:

  • Tableau Agent: An AI assistant for data preparation, exploration, and visualization in Prep and Authoring. Customers must provide their own LLM to use Tableau Agent capabilities.
  • Tableau MCP: Build custom AI solutions using the Tableau MCP to create agents that can interact with Tableau data sources on Tableau Server.

Currently GA Tableau Agent and Tableau MCP capabilities are available to customers on all Tableau Server editions.

Tableau offers three primary license types, each designed for different user needs:

  1. Creator: Create new workbooks and data flows, export data, curate and share data sources, monitor flow performance, and use Tableau Agent for AI-assisted data preparation, exploration, and visualization.
  2. Explorer: Explore and edit existing workbooks and visualizations, download full data, manage users and content, and use Tableau Agent in Web Authoring to understand existing calculations, create new calculations, and explore and visualize data.
  3. Viewer: View and interact with dashboards, download summary data, and get data-driven alerts.

Yes. Compute-based pricing is available for Tableau Server. Determine how many Creator licenses your team needs. Then enable broad Explorer and Viewer access by licensing your infrastructure. Organizations license processing power in 8-core units rather than by individual users, deploying Tableau Server on their own infrastructure (on-premises, private cloud, or public cloud). This flexible model ties your investment to your deployment size. Contact Sales for pricing.

No, mixing editions or licensing models within a single Tableau Server deployment is not supported. Customers who want to leverage multiple editions must maintain them in completely separate deployments.

No. All Tableau Server plans require an annual contract, billed annually.
