Tableau offers three primary license types, each designed for different user needs:

  1. Creator: Create new workbooks and data flows, export data, curate and share data sources, monitor flow performance, and use Tableau Agent for AI-assisted data preparation, exploration, and visualization. On Tableau Cloud, Creators create Pulse metrics, Pulse metric definitions, and handle admin tasks like scheduling Pulse digests.
  2. Explorer: Explore and edit existing workbooks and visualizations, download full data, manage users and content, and use Tableau Agent in Web Authoring to understand existing calculations, create new calculations, and explore and visualize data. Explorers can also access Pulse Metrics and get Pulse Digests.
  3. Viewer: View and interact with dashboards, download summary data, get data-driven alerts, access Pulse Metrics, and get Pulse Digests.

Yes. Capacity-based pricing is available for Tableau Cloud Standard, Enterprise, and Cloud+ editions. Determine how many Creator and Explorer licenses you need. Then, enable broad Viewer access without paying for individual Viewer licenses. Organizations purchase Capacity-based Viewer Blocks based on the scale of their deployment, and cloud admins can allocate capacity across sites. This flexible model keeps access broad and costs tied to usage. Note: Capacity-based pricing and role-based Viewer licensing cannot be mixed on the same deployment/tenant. Contact Sales for pricing details.

No, mixing editions or licensing models within a single Tableau Cloud deployment/tenant is not supported. Customers who want to leverage multiple editions or multiple licensing models must do so in separate deployments/tenants.

There is one exception: customers on Cloud+ Edition can also have Tableau+ Bundle users within the same deployment, and vice versa.

No. However, select AI features in Cloud+ Edition and the Tableau+ Bundle can be used in conjunction with the Audit Trail feature in Data 360, which can consume credits. The Tableau+ bundle includes 250K credits and more information can be found here.

No. All Tableau Cloud plans require an annual contract, billed annually.

Yes, all Tableau customers receive Standard Success, which includes self-guided resources and on-demand learning. Customers on Enterprise Edition also receive eLearning included. Customers on Cloud+ Edition and the Tableau+ Bundle receive Premier Success and eLearning included — offering expert guidance, targeted coaching, and 24/7 expedited support. Any customer can upgrade to Premier Success or Signature Success for even higher-touch support, including a designated Customer Success Manager, fastest response times, and technical health reviews.
