Higher Education Meet Up - Enrollment and Retention

We're sorry, this event has ended.

With campuses reopening across the country, the need for understanding enrollment and retention trends has never been more critical--they are the lifeblood of an institution. Getting up to date data in the hands of decision makers, advisors, recruiters, and academic deans provides a tremendous advantage. This empowers staff to make intelligent, data driven decisions swiftly, and with confidence. Join us for our next Quarterly Higher Education meetup to hear how the National Student Clearinghouse and the University of Alabama used advanced analytics to increase enrollment and retention. We will also take a deeper dive into enrollment analysis and have a hands-on activity where we build an enrollment dashboard from scratch.

Research Associate at the National Student Clearinghouse

My role in NSC is Research Associate. We drive the design of our new dashboards as well as updating existing dashboards with new features. Dr. Amy Hutton headshot

Dr. Amy Hutton is a long-time user of Tableau, beginning her journey with Tableau in 2014. Since then, she has implemented Tableau and Tableau Server, attended multiple Tableau Conferences, done many of the formal Tableau training sessions, and, most importantly, incorporated Tableau into strategic planning and operations at two large public institutions. Currently, Dr. Hutton serves as the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management at The University of Alabama, overseeing admissions, recruitment, admissions marketing, and orientation. Tableau is an essential part of the admissions work at UA, where it is used to determine territory assignments, decide where to recruit, assess overall trends, and understand the competition. Dr. Hutton previously served as the Director of Enrollment Research and Evaluation at Virginia Commonwealth University. At VCU, Tableau was not only a big part of admissions, but also looked at enrollment and retention trends in order to project retention rates, enrollment rates, and progress towards strategic goals. In this session, Dr. Hutton will share a few examples of how Tableau is used for strategic decision making, including both the unpolished, quick vizzes that can be adapted on the fly for strategic planning conversations and the more polished vizzes that get disseminated for long-term tracking.
