Back to Contest Page

What are the terms of participating?

Teams of 2 comprised of legal residents of Japan studying full time in Japanese universities can participate as long as they follow our guidelines and rules. All submitted material must be original and created by the team members.

How many entries can teams make?

Each team, is allowed to submit only one entry. In your submission, each team/individual must describe the objective of the entry and the analysis it offers in less than 500 words.

I am new to Tableau. How do I participate in this competition?

As only vizzes published on Tableau Public will be considered as a valid entry for the contest, start off by creating a Tableau Public account here! You will also need Tableau Desktop to create the analysis. As a student, you can use our free academic license for this competition! Request for it here.

Find a dataset online to tell your story. You can find a list at our
resources page. When you’ve completed your viz, submit your entry here!

What if I submit an entry early, and then later re-work my viz and want to replace my first entry?

That’s fantastic – feel free to do that up until the close of the contest. Tableau Public automatically supports updates to your viz. You do not need to resubmit your entry form, simply update your workbook and save your changes. Your embedded viz will automatically update on the webpage you have posted it to. We won't look at the entries until the end of the submission period, so update them as much as you want.

What data can I use?

For this contest, you must use a dataset provided on the competition site here. You can bring in other datasets to add to the story.

Tell me more about the Hands-on Workshops that are being conducted.

This is an optional workshop. Students can participate in the competition without attending any of the hands-on workshops. During the workshop, students will learn how to get started with visual analytics to tell data-driven stories. Students will be shown how to connect to data and visualize their queries without writing a single line of code. They will also learn how to create a dashboard from scratch and see how they can quickly analyze, visualize and share information. At the end of the session, the students will be able to publish a dashboard onto Tableau Public for the competition. Seats are limited on a first-come-first-served basis.
