Dr. Jonathan Schwabish is a Senior Research Associate in the Urban Institute's Income and Benefits Policy Center and is considered a leader in the data visualization field. Schwabish is a leading voice for clarity and accessibility in research and has written on various aspects of how to best visualize data, including technical aspects of creation, design best practices, and how to communicate social science research in more accessible ways.
During this presentation, Dr. Schwabish discusses recent changes in the field of data visualization for government—in part driven by changes in big data, open data, and open source programming and tools. He puts out a question on whether these advances can be used to help governments improve citizen services and mission performance.
