Tableau is software that acts as a visually driven self-service analysis platform that helps end users spot outliers, trends and insights from raw data using only a computer mouse (no programming, or consultants). Tableau allows any layperson to work across multiple (sanctioned) data sources to get answers to their own questions in minutes. Please explore the tabs below to see examples of what’s possible from raw data, using only your mouse.

Tableau deploys a live connection to the database (or protected extracts) for analytics, and lets users quickly build and share beautiful, effective dashboards – with a zero footprint to any web browser or on an iPad! The result is high user adoption with minimal demand on IT resources after data has been made available.

Do I need to download the software?
Answer: That depends as to whether you plan to create reports and work with data to create insights for others to review and interact with. If so, you will want do download Tableau Desktop. If you plan only to review reports created by others and interact with them, then you will use Tableau Server only. You will be given an access URL and Login ID and Password by JNJ IT (see Trial Process Explained link below). If you are not quite sure yet, have a peak at what the process looks like below, before deciding.

When we took the first dashboard done in Tableau to the first meeting with the executives, some were so surprised, that the reaction was mostly silence. One of the executives said, 'I always asked for that in the BI area and finally they managed to do it.'
