W-15667322 When syncing a large group (1500 by most Active Directory server defaults) in Active Directory (AD) using the openldap directoryServiceType, Tableau Server will continually poll the AD server trying to get the next set of members but will only get the original set repeatedly until it eventually times out and fails or the job disappears from the Background Tasks for Non-Extracts Admin View. This behavior relates to the maxValRange setting on the Active Directory server. Range Retrieval (wgserver.domain.ldap.range_retrieval) should be set to "true" in Tableau Server for this scenario, as it is supposed to work with the AD server to get a range of users equal to or less than the page size requested (wgserver.domain.ldap.members.retrieval.page.size) and then request additional pages as needed.

To confirm that this is the issue, check the Tableau Server configuration and verify that it has Directory Service Type set to "openldap". This verification is for confirmation only and the configuration cannot be changed without a reinstall of Tableau Server. This issue is specific to the "openldap" value:
