Tableau celebrates a new day for data

Today we’re announcing groundbreaking developments that address two of the biggest barriers to making data easy for everyone—Tableau Prep and our new role based offerings.

10 years ago I joined this company, inspired by the mission to help people see and understand data. To achieve our mission, Tableau relies on the guiding principle to always listen to our customers – to all of you – and innovate to meet the diverse needs of data people everywhere. And today we’re announcing groundbreaking developments that eliminate two of the biggest barriers to making data easy for everyone.

First, introducing data to everyone in your organization means acknowledging the different types of people using data and their different needs. Not everyone needs to be an expert data analyst, but everyone needs data to make better decisions. There should be offerings designed for every type of user. For example, there are people in your organization who are casual users of data - they view and lightly interact with data. But they rarely analyze or ask deeper questions of data. We now have something that is perfect for every type of user.

Second, as data has proliferated, the reality people are facing is a world where data is dirty. Too much data and too many data sources need cleaning and shaping, and only a small set of specialists can help. Certainly, we still need those experts and expert tools but there is a lot of data that should be much easier for virtually any analyst to clean and prep while they’re in the flow of analysis. When more data sources are properly cleaned and prepared, you can produce more useful and trusted analyses. And with more analyses, you will engage more people at every level across your organization because they can rely on secure and trusted data.

It’s a new day for data

We’ve got not one, not two, but three announcements to help you overcome these challenges.

  1. We are announcing new subscription offerings that tailor specific capabilities to the different user needs in organizations and give you more analytical power than ever before. This will make it easier for everyone to work with trusted data and make data-driven decisions.
  2. We are broadening our analytics platform with a powerful new product, Tableau Prep (formerly known as Project Maestro).
  3. Lastly, we’re launching Tableau 2018.1, which includes new capabilities for data people including the ability to connect to data from the browser.

New subscription offerings: Creator, Explorer, and Viewer

Our new subscription offerings are tailored to meet the needs of different users, making it easier to buy and deploy Tableau at scale. Our goal is to help everyone, including people who casually want to use data, make data-driven decisions.

We’re leading with Tableau Creator, which gives the full analytics experience to analysts and power users. This includes Tableau Desktop, a license for Tableau Server or Tableau Online, as well as Tableau Prep.

For organizations looking to scale analytics, Tableau Explorer provides self-service analysis of governed data sources published to Tableau Server/Online, and Tableau Viewer enables casual users to consume dashboards and visualizations created by others.

Tableau’s new offerings – available on-premises, in the public cloud or via Tableau Online – make it easy to meet the needs of all of your users.

Democratizing data preparation with Tableau Prep

We’ve heard you loud and clear: data preparation is one of your biggest challenges. Tableau Prep will do for data preparation what Tableau did for analytics. It takes an otherwise painstaking and difficult task and makes it easy, visual, and direct.

Tableau Prep empowers more people to get to insights faster and help them quickly and confidently combine, shape, and clean their data for analysis.

We’re delighted to announce that as of today, existing customers currently subscribing to Tableau Desktop or who are current with their maintenance will receive Tableau Prep at no additional charge for two years, ending June 30, 2020.

From data in the browser to Dashboard Starters: Tableau 2018.1 is here

Lastly, we're thrilled to announce the launch of Tableau 2018.1. This release brings exciting advancements to the web authoring experience, giving people the ability to connect to data directly from the browser. For the first time, customers can complete many common analytics scenarios from end-to-end, without leaving the browser.

We’re also excited to unveil Dashboard Starters for Tableau Online. Dashboard Starters are beautiful, data-rich dashboards on Tableau Online, populated with your data from common business applications like Salesforce and ServiceNow.
