This is part two in a three-part series about Tableau Data Extracts. In the first post, we looked at how Tableau Data Extracts are built and used by Tableau. If the content of the first post did not already sell you on the benefits of TDEs, then here are several reasons that Tableau Data Extracts (TDEs) are valuable—even essential—to Tableau users: Changes in the delivery of healthcare continues to be a leading subject throughout the country. A few Healthcare organizations are using innovative tools, such as Tableau Software, to better understand and react in order to improve healthcare outcomes. Improvement in health outcomes is based on providing better quality care at a reduced cost while still maintaining profitable operations in order to keep hospital and clinic doors open. There are multiple ways that healthcare organizations approach this – sometimes by reducing a patient’s length of stay. However, this can lead to a patient needing to be re-admitted for an unresolved medical issue. Are the long term costs of such an approach more costly than the short-term gains? This is the first post in a three-part series that will take a large amount of information about Tableau data extracts, highly compress that information, and place it into memory — yours. "Don't just turn out charts, you need to tell a story." Ernest Collings, Experience Executive at global market research agency MESH tells how Tableau transformed their client experience during his TC On Tour session in London. Over the last 7 months, Ernie has been using Tableau at MESH and working closely with the data team to transform the way the business processes market research data. What is infrastructure? According to The Economist it's "The economic arteries and veins. Roads, ports, railways, airports, power lines, pipes and wires that enable people, goods, commodities, water, energy and information to move about efficiently."
Chris Gage, Director at Turner & Townsend, a leading global programme management and construction consultancy, explains how Tableau enables him to make data-driven decisions about world-wide infrastructure projects and investments during his Tableau Conference on Tour session this week. "It's not just about the tool." That was one key quote from Paul Banoub’s TC On Tour Session. As a director of agile Business Intelligence services at UBS it’s his job to not only purchase and install enterprise-ready applications but also ensure they are adopted by the user. Stories have impact, create memories, and lead a viewer down a chosen path. Matt Francis explained when to use data stories in his TC On Tour session in London. Alle Storys

“Our mission is data for public good,” says Glen Szczypka, a Tableau customer we recently had the opportunity to meet. Glen is Deputy Director at the Health Media Collaboratory, and is one of a growing number of people who use data to improve access to health and education services.
We're constantly inspired by data rockstars like Glen. Lucky for us, a number of them have recently shared their stories with us—including Dan Scott of Goodwill Education Initiatives of Indiana (Goodwill Education) and Jordan Slice from the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (South Carolina Campaign). And we're excited to share some of the awesome things they're doing with data.
