Announcing Tableau partnership with Alibaba Cloud

We’re so excited to announce our partnership with Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing business unit of Alibaba Group, leading public cloud provider in China and one of the leading cloud providers worldwide.

At Tableau, we’re focused on providing customers with the choice and flexibility they need to deliver analytics at scale, wherever these customers are, and wherever their data resides. And for an increasing number of our customers, that means deploying Tableau in the cloud. That’s why we’re so excited to announce our partnership with Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing business unit of Alibaba Group. Alibaba Cloud is the leading public cloud provider in China and one of the leading cloud providers worldwide.

In fact, with over one million paying customers in over 200 countries and regions, Alibaba Cloud has the third largest share of the global cloud computing market. Enterprises across the globe fuel their business transformation efforts with Alibaba Cloud’s extremely scalable, secure, and flexible technology infrastructure and data management services. Alibaba Cloud powers AliExpress, Alibaba’s global consumer marketplace; Alipay, the company’s massive mobile and online payment platform; and 11-11, Alibaba’s groundbreaking international shopping festival known as Singles Day (which processed over USD $30.8B in sales in a single day in 2018!).

Installing Tableau Server on Alibaba Cloud Elastic Compute Service (ECS)

Whether a customer is transitioning to the cloud or scaling up their analytics platform, we want to make that process as effective as possible. With Tableau as the leading analytics platform, Alibaba Cloud enables our customers to have freedom of choice without compromising strict enterprise requirements like security and governance.

Our partnership with Alibaba Cloud enables our customers to deploy Tableau Server on Alibaba Cloud ECS, so they can scale capacity depending on real-time demands. Instead of maintaining bulky and costly IT infrastructure or adding additional resources as their volume of data grows, our customers can continue to focus on driving the business forward.

Connect to more data, natively

Tableau is working closely with Alibaba to help our customers connect to all of the data they need as efficiently as possible, no matter where it resides.

Currently, Tableau customers on Alibaba Cloud can easily connect to leading databases such as RDS for MySQL, SQL Server and Postgres via Tableau’s native connectors. In addition, the Alibaba team and Tableau are actively working with Tableau’s Connector SDK to build out native connectors for MaxCompute, AnalyticDB, Data Lake Analytics, and more to help provide access to a variety of datasources that best fits your needs.

Tableau on Alibaba Cloud provides customers with choice when it comes to maximizing the value of their data in the cloud, across clouds and on premise. Customers can now leverage Tableau in addition to Alibaba Cloud’s native BI product, QuickBI, to derive powerful insights from Alibaba Cloud’s data platform.

The journey is just beginning

This is the first stage in an on-relationship with Alibaba Cloud. Tableau and Alibaba will continue to develop scripted deployments, native data connectors, and documentation resources so that customers can get up-and-running with Tableau Server on Alibaba Cloud quickly and easily. We are thrilled to sponsor Alibaba Cloud’s Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, China, so stop by the Tableau booth if you are attending September 25th-27th. We are excited to see our journey with Alibaba grow, and most of all, thrilled to give our global data family the choice and flexibility to see and understand their data on the Alibaba Cloud.
