What is the theme and what is the submission deadline?
See here for the theme and the submission period of the current feeder competition.
What are the terms of participating?
Any resident of Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom or The United States not employed by Tableau Software can participate as long as they follow our guidelines and rules. See contest rules below for more details.
How many entries may one person make?
Please limit your entries to 1.
What if I submit an entry early, and then later re-work my viz and want to replace my first entry?
That’s fantastic – feel free to do that up until the close of the contest. Tableau Public automatically supports updates to your viz. You do not need to resubmit your entry form, simply update your workbook and save your changes keeping your viz name unchanged. Your viz will automatically update. We won't look at the entries until the end of the submission period, so update them as much as you want.
Can I really use any data?
You can use any data set(s) you find interesting, provided they are related to the theme of the feeder round. Please be considerate of others, and do not use a data set that might be found overly offensive. We would also like you to consider image rights when including visuals into your visualization.
Is there any strong requirement around making my data set(s) or workbook downloadable?
If possible provide a link to your source(s) in the footnote or description of your viz and allow 'Download' for the viz you submit. This allows others to learn from your work. That's how many of us became better at creating vizzes.
Who can I contact if I am having problems with Tableau Public?
You may contact Tableau Public at public@tableau.com, please include Viz Contest in the subject line. Note that submissions can only be made via the webform.
How will the winner be chosen?
A panel of judges comprised of Tableau employees and guest judges will evaluate all submissions based on the following criteria:
- Design
- Storytelling (note: this doesn't mean one has to use the StoryPoints feature in Tableau.)
- Analysis
Analysis will be the tiebreaker in case two vizzes have the same overall score. Should the Analysis score also be tied, the jury will make a final decision.
The winner will be announced on the Tableau Public blog, approximately 10 days after the contest closes. See here for the link to this blog post once it is published.
Will my scores be made public?
We will publish the scores for the top 10 vizzes on the Tableau Public blog. People who requested feedback will get their scores too - see next point.
Can I get feedback on my work?
Yes. Please tick the required box on the submission form for that. Please understand that we might take a couple of days to compile everybody's feedback and scores.
