According to recent studies by the National Coalition for Child Protection Reform, America's foster children are not always receiving the care that they need.

One of the key findings was that many states tend to place children out of their family for foster care, when kinship foster care has been found to be more effective and safe. Take a look at the visualization below to learn about your state.

Just as important as kinship placement rates are congregate care placement rates (when children are placed in group homes or institutions). Often, these placements can be unsafe and also counter-productive in helping children in difficult situations. Use the filter at the top right to switch between the two metrics.
