Advocacy and Public Research

Pairing reliable data with an emotional story helps advocates influence policymakers and weave their message into the fabric of public consciousness.

Whether you're promoting public accountability, sharing research on complex issues, or educating people about what is going on in their world, Tableau is a must-have in any communicator’s toolkit.

Educating policymakers and the public

Individual school districts may be sitting on mountains of student data, but trying to figure out which schools are doing well--and why--can be difficult for county and state officials.

That’s why Shelby Cooley built the Road Map Project Data Dashboard to compare outcomes, and to explore how segmenting the demographic data by ethnicity, income, gender, and other factors can change our perceptions of school performance. A research scientist and Tableau Foundation Data Fellow, Shelby designed the dashboards to help everyone from legislators to community organizations to individual parents make decisions about the best way to educate and support children across the Seattle area.
