Conducting Effective Institutional Research

Institutional research is crucial to providing college and university leadership with the data required to make the most informed strategic decisions, across a broad range of areas including admissions, academics, finance, enrollment, retention, staffing, facilities and more. In order for this research to be effective, however, it is also important to have a strategy and process to translate the data gathered into actionable information.

Attend this web seminar to learn how the office of Analysis, Assessment and Accreditation (AAA) at Utah State University gathers and analyzes complex data about students, faculty, academic programs and more, providing visualizations that help to inform strategic decision making by university leaders. Our presenter will discuss how the data provided by the department is promoting institutional and student success at Utah State, and the keys to conducting effective institutional research at any institution.

Dallin Crump

Dallin's expertise comes from a combination of self-education and work-related experience. Early in his career, he took an interest in building custom Microsoft Access databases to streamline data entry and reporting processes. Each successive role has built upon and expanded his aptitude and interest into years of experience with Access, SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, and many other database reporting, and analytical systems and tools. Since joining the Office of Analysis, Assessment, and Accreditation at Utah State University in May of 2013, he has added Tableau to his skill set, using it to create sophisticated visualizations and dashboards, and serving as a Tableau trainer for individuals and groups within the university.
