Visualizing Budget to Improve Outcomes for Citizens

When it comes to keeping community members informed, state and local government agencies need to be able to collect, analyze, and share large amounts of data. This can be challenging as it requires collecting data from diverse internal-facing sources. Further difficulty is added when translating nuanced and jargon-filled data in a way that can empower the public to learn more.

The City of Portland's City Budget Office wanted to create a guide on budgeting to help the public and internal stakeholders better understand the process and its outcomes. Listen to how they were able to overcome common challenges and create an interactive dashboard that increases transparency and encourages community engagement.

You will learn how to:

  • Compile and translate budget and performance data from multiple sources
  • Share insights discovered and measure success with other departments
  • Empower resident action with transparent, interactive visualizations
