Higher Education Virtual Tableau Day: Moving Forward with Data

Data Analyst for FIU Online since 2015 with extensive knowledge in Tableau analytics and a passion for data. In my current position, I have assisted in building a data-driven culture within FIU Online to support operations such as lead tracking, applicant forecasting, enrollment tracking, student success strategy improvement, marketing strategy development, course design and auditing processes. I have worked alongside external departments providing insight necessary to implement university-wide projects such as course scheduling, student admissions, international student tracking, faculty micro-credentialing, grade tracking and faculty accountability. I have a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University, where I graduated with a degree in I.T. - Software Engineering and a minor in Social Media and E-Marketing Analytics; I am currently working on a Data Science master’s degree. In addition to data analytics and higher-ed, I am experienced in software programming, data mining, web analytics and public speaking. My academic and professional background have provided me with both the technical knowledge necessary to understand the intricacies of data and the insight required to navigate analytics in the higher-ed industry.

Data Analyst at Florida International University vastly experienced in descriptive and predictive analytics in the fields of education (student, faculty/staff, university performance metrics), business operations (financials, inventory, goal tracking, forecasting), marketing (campaign analysis, recruitment, social networks), and human resource analytics. Since 2014, I have been working at FIU Online at implementing a data-driven culture at the department and university level. I have partnered with different units for better insight delivery of learning and academic analytics, as well as enhanced interactive reporting and analysis. I am very passionate in the fields of Business Intelligence, Research, Analytics and Data Mining and I currently hold a Master of Science in Management Information Systems as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems and Marketing. Previously, I held the role of Instructional Designer at Florida International University developing online courses for a variety of school/colleges which has given me experience in e-learning and application programming.

Debbie Phelps has worked in institutional effectiveness roles for over ten years. Joining the administrative team at Cowley College as the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness in 2018, she also chairs a cross-departmental Knowledge Management team and serves as the campus’ Tableau administrator. One of those crazy data people who really does enjoy coming to work to stare at spreadsheets for eight hours, she’s excited to empower colleagues through the democratizing power that access to data can provide.
