Our telecommunication signals criss-cross the globe via an intricate undersea cable network. South African Greg Mahlknecht has attempted to compile a dataset from various sources that shows the path of these many cables. He has made this dataset available to download as a shapefile at Cablemap.info. We downloaded the shapefile, connected to it with Tableau Public 10.4, and created this interactive map that also integrates the beautiful new Mapbox style North Star, designed by Nathaniel Slaughter, as the background map:
