Product Activation

The best way to activate your license is through the product itself. In Tableau Desktop, select Help > Manage Product Keys and then click Activate. If you have any trouble activating your license, please follow the Activating Tableau Offline directions.

Note: Some drivers install into a directory that is specific to the version of Tableau you are using. Drivers marked for all versions are installed outside of the versioned directories so they can be used for all versions of both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.

Amazon EMR Hive

Follow these steps to install the Hive driver for Amazon EMR:

  1. Verify that you have ODBC Administrator installed. You can download it from Apple: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL895. Control-click to install the downloaded dmg.
  2. Go to the Amazon Elastic Map Reduce web page and click the HiveODBC.zip link to download the file.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file, and then navigate to and open the MacOSX folder.
  4. Double-click the AmazonHiveODBC.dmg file.
  5. Double-click the AmazonHiveODBC.pkg file and accept the defaults.
  6. From Finder, select Utilities, and then open ODBC Administrator.
  7. Select the Drivers tab, and then click Add.
  8. In the Description field, enter Amazon Hive ODBC Driver.
  9. In the Driver file field, choose or enter /opt/amazon/hiveodbc/lib/universal/libamazonhive.odbc.dylib.
  10. Click OK, click Apply, and then close the ODBC Administrator.
  11. Log out and then log in to your Mac.
  12. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Amazon EMR.

Amazon EMR Impala

Follow these steps to install the Impala driver for Amazon EMR:

  1. Verify that you have ODBC Administrator installed. You can download it from Apple: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL895. Control-click to install the downloaded dmg.
  2. Go to the Amazon Elastic Map Reduce web page and click the ImpalaODBC.zip link to download the file.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file, and then navigate to and open the MacOSX folder.
  4. Double-click the AmazonImpalaODBC.dmg file.
  5. Double-click the AmazonImpalaODBC.pkg file and accept the defaults.
  6. From Finder, select Utilities, and then open ODBC Administrator.
  7. Select the Drivers tab, and then click Add.
  8. In the Description field, enter Amazon Impala ODBC Driver.
  9. In the Driver file field, choose or enter /opt/amazon/impalaodbc/lib/universal/libamazonimpala.odbc.dylib.
  10. Click OK, click Apply, and then close the ODBC Administrator.
  11. Log out and then log in to your Mac.
  12. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Amazon EMR.

Amazon Redshift

For Tableau 8.2.9 and later 8.2.x releases, and 8.3.4 and later, follow the steps on the Amazon website to install the driver for Amazon Redshift.

For Tableau 8.2 – 8.2.8, and 8.3 – 8.3.3, follow these steps to install the driver for Amazon Redshift:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau PostgreSQL Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Amazon Redshift.

Cloudera Hive

Follow these steps to install the driver for Cloudera Hadoop Hive:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Go to the Cloudera Connector web page and choose Hive Drivers & Connectors and then ODBC.
  3. Download the current Mac "Bits."
  4. Double-click the downloaded file to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  5. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Cloudera Hadoop.

Cloudera Impala

Follow these steps to install the driver for Cloudera Hadoop Impala:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Go to the Cloudera Connector web page and choose Impala Drivers & Connectors and then ODBC.
  3. Download the current Mac "Bits."
  4. Double-click the downloaded file to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  5. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Cloudera Hadoop.

Hortonworks Hadoop Hive

Follow these steps to install the driver for Hortonworks Hadoop Hive:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download the Hive ODBC Driver for OS X. Double-click the downloaded file to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  3. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Hortonworks.

HP Vertica

Follow these steps to install the driver for HP Vertica:

  1. Verify that you have an ODBC Administrator. You can download one from Apple: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL895. Control-click to install the downloaded dmg.
  2. Download the 64-bit 7.0.1 MAC driver from the myVertica portal.
    For other installation scenarios, see Installing the ODBC Driver on Macintosh OS X on the Vertica website.
  3. Start Terminal and type in the following command to create target directory:
    sudo mkdir -p /Library/ODBC/vertica
  4. Change to the directory you just created:
    cd /Library/ODBC/vertica
  5. Unpack the file containing the ODBC driver using the following command:
    sudo tar -xzf ~/Downloads/vertica-odbc-7.0.1-0.64.mac.tar
    Note: The file name will change with new version releases. If this command is not working, replace “vertica-odbc-7.0.1-0.64.mac.tar.gz“ above with the file name in your Downloads folder.
  6. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  7. Double-click TableauDrivers.dmg in the Downloads folder.
  8. Double-click Tableau Vertica Configure.pkg and accept the defaults. You will be asked to restart your Mac.
  9. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to HP Vertica.

MapR Hadoop Hive

Follow these steps to install the driver for MapR Hadoop Hive:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Go to the "Installing the Hive ODBC Connector on MacOS" section on the MapR Hive ODBC Connector web page.
  3. Click the link in the "Systems Requirements" section to download the MacOS Hive ODBC connector.
  4. Double-click the downloaded MapRHiveODBC.dmg file.
  5. Control-click the MapRHiveODBC.pkg and then click Open to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to MapR Hadoop Hive.

Microsoft SQL Server

Follow these steps to install the driver for Microsoft SQL Server:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Simba SQL Server ODBC.pkg to run the installer.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Microsoft SQL Server.

MySQL

Follow these steps to install the driver for MySQL:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click MySQL Connector ODBC 5.3.pkg to run the installer.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to MySQL.

Oracle

Follow these steps to install the driver for Oracle:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau Oracle Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Oracle.

Pivotal Greenplum

Follow these steps to install the driver for Pivotal Greenplum:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau PostgreSQL Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Pivotal Greenplum.

Postgres

Follow these steps to install the driver for Postgres:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau PostgreSQL Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to PostgreSQL.

Spark SQL

Follow these steps to install the ODBC driver for Spark SQL:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Verify that you have ODBC Administrator installed. You can download it from Apple: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL895. Control-click to install the downloaded .dmg file.
  3. Go to the Databricks web site, and complete the form. For Deployment Model, select Other; for Distribution, select Other; and for Driver Version, select Mac OSX.
  4. Agree to the terms and conditions, and then click Download.
  5. Double-click the downloaded SimbaSparkODBC.dmg file.
  6. Double-click the SimbaSparkODBC.pkg file and accept the defaults.
  7. From Finder, select Utilities, and then open ODBC Administrator.
  8. Select the Drivers tab, and then click Add.
  9. In the Description field, enter Simba Spark ODBC Driver.
  10. In the Driver file field, choose or enter /opt/simba/sparkodbc/lib/universal/libsimbasparkodbc.dylib.
  11. Click OK, click Apply, and then close the ODBC Administrator.
  12. Log out and then log in to your Mac.
  13. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Spark SQL.

Teradata

Follow these steps to install the driver for Teradata:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download the Teradata Tools and Utilities installer.
  3. Control-click the downloaded .pkg file, and then click Open to run the package. Accept the defaults.
    Note: The following error message may appear: "ODBC Administrator Tool does not appear to be installed." Click OK to dismiss the error; it does not affect the driver installation.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Teradata.
