Tableau Updates Product Release Cadence
Editor's Note: This blog was originally published in September 2023, and has been updated in October 2024 and August 2026 with Maintenance Release Changes.
Tableau is the world's leading agentic analytics platform, built on the trusted, governed data foundation every organization needs for the agentic era. As agentic analytics becomes central to how organizations see and act on their data, Tableau is evolving into the trusted knowledge platform that powers reliable, governed insights for people and for the AI agents now working alongside them.
Tableau Cloud Release Cadence
Major version updates of Tableau Cloud will be released every four months.
Tableau Desktop Release Cadence
Major version updates of Tableau Desktop will be released every four months.
Tableau Server Release Cadence Update — October 2026
Starting with the October release (2026.3), Tableau Server is returning to shipping major releases every four months. This means Server customers will once again receive a new release each cycle, alongside Tableau Cloud and Tableau Desktop, keeping all three products aligned.
We're making this change to ensure Server customers get access to new capabilities as quickly as our Cloud and Desktop customers do, including our agentic innovations. Keeping Server on the same cadence as the rest of the platform also simplifies planning for customers managing mixed deployments and reduces the gap between when a capability ships and when on-premise and self-managed customers can adopt it.
Maintenance Releases
Tableau Desktop versions that are aligned with the Tableau Server release will have the same 24-month MR support as outlined for the Tableau Server Maintenance Release. This is to allow our customers to continue using Tableau Desktop with the same version as their Tableau Server deployments.
For Tableau Desktop and Tableau Bridge versions that are only released as the companion with Tableau Cloud, the Maintenance Releases will stop after the next version of Tableau Cloud is released, which is four months.

This approach also helps ensure stable, customer-aligned updates, minimizing upgrade disruption and enabling smoother adoption of new functionalities. We hope that a refined release strategy underscores our commitment to delivering the best data visualization and analytics experience that addresses user needs precisely.
Technical Support
Technical support for Tableau Server and Tableau Desktop will continue to be provided during the same period as maintenance, as outlined on our website's Supported Versions section.
