Moving beyond the Personal edition of Tableau Desktop
Starting with new releases in 2021, Tableau will no longer produce new versions of the Personal edition of Tableau Desktop. Unlike its big brother, Tableau Desktop Professional, Tableau Desktop Personal only connects to flat files like CSVs or Excel docs, and can only save locally or to Tableau Public—you can’t publish to Tableau Online or Tableau Server. You’ll be able to extend your existing Tableau Desktop Personal maintenance or subscription contracts through December 4, 2020, if you renew by December 4, 2019. To transition to Tableau Desktop Professional at your current Desktop Personal price, please contact your customer renewals manager. You can find your CRM by going to the "my invoices tab" in the customer portal.
Tableau Desktop Professional users enjoy the over 65 native data connectors plus the ability to securely share vizzes with Tableau Online or Tableau Server. With Tableau Desktop Professional, you’ll be able to connect to and analyze all types of data: from the flat files you know and love, to databases like SQL Server or Amazon Redshift, to web applications like Salesforce and Google Analytics, and more. With the ability to publish to Tableau Online or Server, you can share and collaborate in a trusted and secure environment.
Not sure which edition of Tableau Desktop you are using? Simply check the edition type on your splash screen by going to Help > About Tableau on Windows and About Tableau on a Mac or talk to your Tableau Customer Portal Admin.
