Tableau Data Day Out - Melbourne
Main Stage: Grand Ballroom
09:15 a.m. - Guest Keynote: Will Dayble - What do we do when we don’t know what to do?
The rational answer is to batten down the hatches, freak out, and get busy. Will Dayble is going to try and convince us that there are subtler, more practical, and profound ways to break through busy, if we’re willing to take the time to ask ourselves some weirder questions.
10:00 a.m. - Tableau Keynote: Data Literacy - The Most Important Skill of the 21st Century
Data Literacy will be the most critical skill to acquire in the 21st century. We believe this new skill will change the world in the same way that literacy transformed access to knowledge in the centuries after the printing press. But just having access to tools is not enough. Just as the printing press made books available, people still had to learn to read, the broad availability of data and analytical tools requires a fundamental change in human behaviour. Data literacy is not only about consuming and understanding what others have created but more importantly about the ability to experiment and share our ideas and perspectives.

Simply buying the latest BI technology or software doesn’t guarantee a successful self-service analytics capability, nor is it the solution.
This presentation provides one team’s data and people centred approach to building and managing a self-service analytic capability and putting data back into the hands of the people who run the business.
03:00 p.m. - How to Make an Impact with your Data: Going from Boring to Beautiful (and Functional)
We sit on a pile of data. What’s the point of having data if it’s not making an impact? We often see customers excitedly pick up Tableau to create visualisations/dashboards with the best of intentions, only to be met with underwhelming feedback, minimal business impact, or even outright resistance from their organisation. This presentation will talk about how you can make more impact with data you have at your fingertips which include a few tips/tricks to help you go from boring to beautiful and hopefully drive change within your organisation.
Breakout 2 - La Trobe Ballroom
01:30 p.m. - Citizen Data Scientist is the new Data Analyst
Citizen data scientists can bridge the gap between mainstream self-service analytics by business users and the advanced analytics techniques of data scientists. They perform sophisticated analysis that would previously have required more expertise, enabling them to deliver advanced analytics without having the skills that characterize data scientists.
This presentation is about how Tableau and other third-party applications integrating with Tableau can support this emerging group of advanced data analysts.
02:00 p.m. - Customer Presenter: Using Analytics and Visualisation to Support Evidence Based Decision Making at Toll

02:30 p.m. - From Chaos to Order: Guiding Principles for your Content Management Strategy with Tableau Server
You have multiple sites, hundreds of projects, dozens of site admins, a proliferation of data sources and very little notion of whether your Tableau Server is being used well. Learn how to take this chaos and transform it to a governed self-service analytics platform. This session will discuss focus areas for an effective operating model that will help your organisation achieve the greatest leverage from Tableau Server.
03:00 p.m. - Customer Presenter: HESTA
HESTA has been on the Tableau journey for around 3 years. We started with a conviction to be a data led organisation, and firmly believe Tableau is the right tool to help us do that. But we’ve had plenty of false starts and we’ve learned lots about ourselves along the way. We’ve learned that all-the-data is sometimes too-much-data, and we’ve learned the value of curating and creating knowledge. We’ve learned that not everyone wants to be an analyst, not everyone aspires to be a rock-star data scientist (although everyone DOES want what they can bring to the table) – instead what we have is lots of people who ask really great questions, and incredible capability in pockets that need to be nurtured and amplified. We’ve learned the value of “done, not perfect” and how to iterate quickly to enable the next question, and we’ve learned how to listen to our people and crowd source the next big thing.
