Tableau Server Requirements
Tableau Server
Web Browsers
- Chrome on Windows, Mac, and Android
- Microsoft Edge & Internet Explorer 11 on Windows. Compatibility mode for Internet Explorer is not supported.
- Mozilla Firefox & Firefox ESR on Windows and Mac
- Apple Safari on Mac and iOS 11.3 or later
- Tableau Mobile iOS and Android Apps, available at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, respectively
System Requirements
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 (x64)

- CPUs must support SSE4.2 and POPCNT instruction sets
Proof of Concept Requirements
The minimum specifications are only suggested for prototyping and testing of Tableau Server. The installer checks for the minimum system requirements and will not proceed on computers with less than these hardware minimums:
- 4 cores / 8v-CPU (ex.AWS)
- 16 GB system memory
- 15 GB minimum free disk space
Minimum Production Requirements
The minimum configuration recommended for production usage of Tableau Server is based on these hardware specifications:
- 8 physical cores, 16V-CPU (ex.AWS)
- 32 GB system memory
- 50 GB minimum free disk space
Tableau Prep Conductor
We recommend deploying Tableau Prep Conductor on a dedicated node with a minimum of 4 cores and 16 GB of memory. Additional resources may be needed depending on the use case. Contact Tableau for sizing and technical guidance.
Tableau Resource Monitoring Tool
The Tableau Resource Monitoring tool has two components - an agent that is installed on each node of the Tableau Server cluster it is monitoring, and a master server for processing and hosting the web service. A separate machine/VM is needed for the Master Server, where all processing and analysis takes place. The minimum specification for the master Server are:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019
- Amazon Linux 2, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.3 and higher (not 8.x), CentOS 7.3+ (not 8.x), Debian 9.0+, Oracle Linux 7.3+ (not 8.x), Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and 18.04 LTS on x64 chipsets
- CPUs must support SSE4.2 and POPCNT instruction sets
- 8 physical CPU cores (16 vCPUs)
- 32GB RAM
- 500GB Disk Space, SSD drives are recommended
The Resource Monitoring Tool can provide real-time performance reporting for a Tableau Server deployment serving up to 4,000 views per hour. Above 4,000 views per hour, customers may experience delays in analyzing recent Server activity. Additional factors such as Tableau Server Backgrounder load and master server drive write performance may also contribute to delays. Customer can use the Traffic to Views Admin View to understand the peak view load in their deployment.
Tableau Content Migration Tool
The Content Migration Tool is run from a Windows computer and is able to connect to Tableau 19.3+ Servers with the Server Management Add-on enabled. The minimum specifications are:
- Microsoft Windows 7 or newer (x64)
- Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3 (Dual Core)
- 4GB or larger
- 2GB HDD free or larger. You may need additional disk space if you are migrating large amounts of content. All content is stored locally on disk, during a migration.
