The Tipping Point at Chick-fil-A: How Tableau went Viral by Karen Hinson & Marc Hunt, Chick-fil-A
In 2011, a small number of analysts began using Tableau to prototype new dashboards alongside the enterprise adopted BI solution. IT saw the speed and agility Tableau offered, and a unique partnership developed to push reporting capabilities further at Chick-fil-A. With support from IT, Marketing, and Operations, this small team of analysts was able to incite a movement (data to the people!), and they now serve as Tableau champions, hosting internal user groups, doctor sessions, and Development Days. In this session, we are pleased to share our story of how we went from a couple of reporting analysts developing internal content, to a mutually-beneficial partnership with IT, supporting an enterprise roll-out of Tableau Server with a growing community of developers.
Meet the speakers:
Nathan Kollett: Nathan is a Senior Manager on the Web Analytics team at Wayfair. He has been working in digital analytics and the BI space for the past six years and is passionate about all things related to data visualization and online consumer behavior. Prior to Wayfair, Nathan was a data visualization consultant with Slalom Consulting and earned a Bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Karen Hinson: As an analyst in Chick-fil-A's business insights department, Karen is responsible for producing reports and dashboards that measure the health of the business. She began using Tableau in 2013 and has been hooked ever since. She enjoys creating simple, intuitive visualizations that "tell the story" behind Chick-fil-A's menu, sales, and profits. Karen earned her B.Sc. in finance from the University of South Carolina and her M.B.A. from Georgia Tech. She lives outside Atlanta with her husband Adam and their two young children.
Marc Hunt: Marc is a data and visualization junkie at Chick-fil-A, working in the Business Insights team within Financial Services. He has a passion for bridging the data gap between the business and IT, and has worked closely with the Business Intelligence Solutions team in IT since 2010. Marc was an early adopter of Tableau in 2011, and is a leader of the Tableau revolution at Chick-fil-A, helping others share their data stories.
