About the speakers

Lisa Kessler

Allegheny County

Lisa Kessler is a data analyst supporting homelessness and housing services and COVID-19-related programs at Allegheny County Department of Human Services. She received her Bachelor of Science in Decision Science and Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University and her Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management from the University of Pittsburgh. When she began working for DHS in 2015, she was given a Tableau license and directions to make a descriptive dashboard with no clue on what Tableau even was. Since her early days of too many charts and too many colors, Lisa has utilized Tableau as a tool to communicate information to stakeholders of all levels of data literacy to better inform decision making for policies and programs to serve Allegheny County’s most vulnerable citizens.

Derek Graham

Philadelphia Gas Works

Derek Graham is a Mechanical Engineering graduate who first found the power of data while working in the Fleet Operations Department at Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW). During his first six years at PGW, he used massive spreadsheets, complicated visual basic commands, and his trusty TI-89 calculator to help provide answers to questions everyone had (and some that no one thought to ask) about Fleet efficiency and effectiveness. After a transfer over to the newly formed Data & Analytics Department, he soon discovered why it was so important to have tools that brought ‘intelligence’ to data and reports. For the past two years Derek has been utilizing Tableau along with his colleagues to promote a culture of business intelligence and analytics within PGW. Derek will be presenting on how using Tableau can give your data context and drive buy-in within your organization to analytics.
