Tableau Software Extends Tableau Public to 1 Million Rows of Data

Increased limit allows people to analyze and share larger data sets online for free

Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA) today announced that users of Tableau Public can now use the company’s free product to connect to and visualize data sets containing up to 1 million rows of data. This expansion represents a tenfold increase over the previous limit of 100,000 rows of data, and comes in response to the growing availability of larger data sets on the web.

“Since Tableau Public launched in 2010, we’ve seen an explosion in the number of data sets available on the web for public consumption,” said Tableau Public Product Marketing Manager Ben Jones. “It’s becoming more common for these data sets to exceed one hundred thousand records, so this change allows users of our software to share interactive visualizations of these larger data sets with their readers.”

Examples of publicly available data sets with more than 100,000 rows include:

•U.S. Medicare payments to hospitals
•Historical weather station data recorded hourly
•Airline on-time statistics and delay causes

In addition to expanding Tableau Public to 1 million rows, users with free accounts now have 1GB of free storage space instead of the previous 50MB storage limit.

For customers of Tableau Public Premium, which allows users to save locally and disable download of their workbooks, the limits have been increased to 10 million rows of data at 10GB of storage space.
