Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA) today announced two grants it has made in support of the Data for Good movement through the Tableau Foundation, part of its social responsibility (CSR) program. Tableau Foundation made grants to DataKind, an organization that aims to harness the power of data science in the service of humanity, and Bayes Impact, an organization that brings data science solutions to big social problems.

DataKind is considered a leader in the Data for Good movement. Based in New York City with six Chapters worldwide, DataKind represents a global community of thousands of data science and social sector experts committed to using data science to address critical humanitarian issues. DataKind’s signature program, the DataCorps, brings together teams of pro bono data scientists with social change organizations on long-term projects that use data science to transform their work and their sector.

Bayes Impact deploys teams of full-time data scientists and software engineers to build data-driven, software solutions for the social sector. Bayes Impact’s data science projects are focused on building implementable solutions to a wide range of societal problems including healthcare, disaster recovery, and criminal justice.

The Tableau Foundation grants include financial support and free software licenses for volunteers and staff.

“We have a unique opportunity to help build the Data for Good movement and inspire people to become more involved,” said Neal Myrick, Director, Corporate Social Responsibility at Tableau. “Not only are we providing them with much needed resources, but it’s also an opportunity for our employees to engage in projects around the world.”

Tableau Foundation has also launched the Do Good Data 2015 Viz Challenge in conjunction with the Do Good Data 2015 conference coming up April 30-May 1, 2015. People registered for the conference receive free Tableau Desktop Professional licenses and are encouraged to partner with a charity to create a visualization that helps the non-profit to see and understand their data. Contestants can also use any publicly available non-profit, government or public data to create visualizations. Winners will have the opportunity to showcase their visualization at the conference, win a $1,000 cash grant and a grant of Tableau licenses for their charity. More information about the contest can be found at http://www.tableau.com/dogooddata.
