MEDIA ALERT: Mayden Picks Tableau Software to Power Next Generation Healthcare Analytics

Healthcare management and assessment business using Tableau to boost data analysis and interpretation

Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA), global leader in rapid-fire, easy-to-use business analytics software, today announced Mayden, an innovative supplier of end-to-end managed web applications and bespoke system development to the healthcare sector, is using Tableau to enhance its analysis and reporting. Mayden is analysing programmes such as the NHS’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) providing support to 5 million people suffering from depression and anxiety.

Mayden has chosen to integrate Tableau Software’s Server and Desktop editions within its solutions for patient and operational management, online service assessment and secure hosting.

The Department of Health, NHS Trusts, commissioning bodies, local authority and third sector organisations all rely on Mayden to improve healthcare outcomes through applications that enhance the way services are delivered by staff and experienced by patients.

Prior to Tableau, Mayden reviewed a variety of vendors, choosing Tableau as it scored the highest on 10 business criteria metrics, and was the only solution that could create the desired result from test data.

“We wanted a business intelligence tool to embed into our healthcare applications, aimed at clinicians that enhanced our reporting across web platforms. The goal was to become more productive and faster to report our clients’ results,” said Chris May, founder and Managing Director of Mayden. “Additionally we saw an opportunity to renew a past focus in analytics for health. With the big data trend really taking off we want to get back into analytics using the best tools available.”

NHS Trusts and those organisations that work for the NHS, such as charities, generate huge data volumes, but don’t always have the in-house expertise to process and utilise it to the fullest extent. In 2008, the UK government launched its flagship programme IAPT to provide support those suffering from depression and anxiety. It initially aimed to target 15% of the prevalent population each year resulting in 750,000 patient referrals per annum. In one afternoon Tableau allowed Mayden to reduce 100 or more separate charts into a single visualisation that was easier to interpret. An easy to use dashboard makes it possible to click and see detailed results for each patient.

“Mayden is empowering healthcare teams to make better-informed, fact-based decisions. This allows clinicians and managers to spend time and resources where they are most needed, prioritising effectively to help the high risk,” commented James Eiloart, VP, EMEA, Tableau Software.

“Productivity is essential for healthcare organisations, with Tableau we deliver our clients’ healthcare data results more quickly, with a higher quality output. The versatile software and beautiful graphical outputs really engage with users,” May continued. “In 2014 presentation is as important as what our solutions do – people need to engage with them, based on their consumer IT experience as a benchmark. Additionally, Tableau we discovered, is backed up with excellent customer service from the pre-sales engagement to aftersales client care.”
