Company strengthens ties to entertainment industry with new hires

Publication date:

Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA), a global leader in rapid-fire, easy-to-use business analytics software, today announced Dave Story has joined the company as Vice President, Mobile and Strategic Growth. Story will focus on scaling Tableau’s development team as well as driving strategy for its mobile products.

Story has more than 14 years of executive level management experience for some of the world’s best known product lines. Prior to Tableau, he served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at LucasFilm where he led technology for all of the company’s divisions. He was also CTO at Move Inc., the operator of www.realtor.com, Vice President of Product Development and Product Management at Adobe Systems, and CTO for Intuit’s Small Business and Personal Finance Group.

“Dave has an accomplished career in helping companies grow world-class technology and business practices globally,” said Chris Stolte, Chief Development Officer and Co-Founder of Tableau Software. “He will be instrumental as we scale our development team. His experience and creativity will be a powerful asset as we expand and improve our mobile offerings.”

Tableau is bringing business intelligence to more people through its mobile analytics. Its mobile business intelligence solutions focus on excellent usability and a consistent experience that takes advantage of the unique features of mobile. Tableau views are optimized to deliver touch experiences on the growing number of iPads and Android tablets used in the office environment.

“Adding mobile analytics to business intelligence can help more people with intimate knowledge of the data get access to it,” said Story. “Mobile is helping to drive a culture of data-driven decision making whether in the office or on-the-go. I look forward to helping to shape Tableau’s mobile strategy and also to helping the company scale its astoundingly talented development team around the world.”

Story’s hire also strengthens Tableau’s ties to entertainment industry. The former LucasFilm CTO joins Tableau co-founder, Pat Hanrahan, who was an early employee at Pixar Animation Studios and will be honored with his third award from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on February 15. Hanrahan will be honored for his work on physically based rendering, a technology that has transformed computer graphics lighting by more accurately simulating materials and lights. Tableau also recently added Philip Hubbard to its team as Senior Software Engineer. Hubbard previously worked for LucasFilm’s Industrial Light and Magic division, the group responsible for special effects on blockbusters including the Star Wars movies, The Avengers, Iron Man and many others. Hubbard will also receive a Science and Technical Achievements Award from the Academy on February 15 for the architecture and development of the Zeno application framework.
