Tableau Software Named New Technology of the Year by Digital Analytics Association

DAA Recognizes Tableau for Leadership in the Analytics Industry

Publication date:

Tableau Software, the global leader in rapid-fire business intelligence software, has been named New Technology of the Year by the Digital Analytics Association (DAA), formerly the Web Analytics Association (WAA). The award is part of the second annual WAA Awards for Excellence in which association members and non-members were invited to nominate leading contributions to the digital analytics profession.

More than 90 nominations were received in the worldwide competition and WAA members voted for the finalists. Recipients in each of the categories were selected by a distinguished panel of judges comprised of experts in the digital analytics industry.

“People are done with slow-moving, cumbersome web analytics tools. They need fast, visual self-service applications that make it easy to answer questions,” said Elissa Fink, CMO at Tableau Software. “We’re truly honored by the DAA and their recognition that Tableau helps web analytics and digital data professionals get more insight from their data.”

Tableau was spun out of Stanford in 2003 when the co-founders realized that computer graphics could deliver huge gains in people’s ability to see and understand information. Its Tableau Desktop product is built on breakthrough technology that allows people to connect to data in a few clicks, then drag and drop to create interactive dashboards. Tableau Server is a business intelligence application that provides browser-based analytics that anyone can learn and use. The company has had eight straight years of record growth, recently announcing that bookings grew 94 percent in 2011. In 2011, Tableau was named by Gartner and IDC as the world’s fastest growing business intelligence company.

“Tableau has clearly demonstrated they’re a leader in the digital analytics industry,” said Aaron Maass, General Manager, MaassMedia. "They were chosen for the accomplishments and contributions they've made to the analytics community and we look forward to watching how they will help to drive the industry forward."
Recipients of the WAA Awards for Excellence were named in the following five categories: Web Analytics Rising Star, Practitioner of the Year, Most Influential Industry Contributor, New Technology of the Year and Most Influential Agency, Vendor or Group. The award recipients were announced at the WAA Gala on March 6, 2012 in San Francisco, CA.
