ADC WorldMap Digital Atlas Data Helps Tableau Software Deliver New Mapping Capabilities

Tableau Licenses Geometry Data from ADCi to Help with Filled Maps Feature

Publication date:

Tableau Software, the global leader in rapid-fire business intelligence software and American Digital Cartography, Inc. (ADCi), a leading provider of global map data, today announced Tableau has licensed ADC WorldMap Digital Atlas and is including ADC WorldMap geometry data in all Tableau 7.0 products.

With the recent launch of Tableau 7.0, the company added new ways of seeing data, including the ability to create choropleth maps, often times called filled maps, where administrative boundaries of a region are filled in with color to represent the data values for that region. The ADC WorldMap Digital Atlas data provides the boundary geometry (polygons) included in the Tableau products.

“We are happy to partner with ADCi as their ADC WorldMap Digital Atlas product offers high-quality boundary and point data,” said Dan Jewett, vice president of Product Management at Tableau. “Additionally, the ADC WorldMap product focuses on a world view of the data and strives to provide equivalent data for all parts of the world, which is very important to us.”

“Tableau is revolutionizing data analysis and has truly made geographic analysis accessible to everyone,” said Barb Wenninger, vice president of Sales and Marketing at ADCi. “The Tableau products are both easy to use and deliver high quality visual output, which our ADC WorldMap geometry data is now contributing to.”

Tableau is initially using the ADC WorldMap Digital Atlas geometry for country, state/province and equivalents, and U.S. counties. Tableau will be expanding use of the ADC WorldMap data to include additional admin 2 boundary data (equivalent to U.S. counties) and point data (latitude/longitude) built into the Tableau geocoding capabilities for additional data, such as airport locations.
