Santa Barbara Community College Chooses Tableau Software to Improve Student Success

Educational Institution Plans to Deploy Tableau to Entire Faculty and Staff

Santa Barbara Community College (SBCC) has chosen Tableau Software to help improve student success. SBCC uses Tableau to analyze student data and track their progress towards academic goals and success. Tableau also helps the college evaluate its own performance as well as how it compares to peer institutions in California and nationwide. The two-year community college chose Tableau for its ease-of-use and its ability to integrate data from its student database and state and federal data sources.

“We have a wide variety of users, including those in leadership positions, and nobody has time time to learn a complex new product,” said Robert Else, Senior Director of Institutional Research at SBCC. “Tableau took minimal training and is extremely useful in the creation of straightforward dashboards and vizzes to communicate our data. It’s such a multidimensional environment that each viz is worth 10-12 traditional reports.”

SBCC plans to eventually deploy Tableau to its entire faculty and staff.

“SBCC collects a tremendous amount of data about its students and it needs an easy way to gather insights and make decisions,” said Elissa Fink, Chief Marketing Officer at Tableau Software. “Tableau brings the trends to life so SBCC can make adjustments to improve the success of its students to either complete their certificates or associates’ degrees or transfer to the four-year college or university of their choice.”
