Their paper is called "Storytelling: The Next Step for Visualization," which goes into the history of how storytelling has been used in data visualization, why it's useful and what some of the next steps could look like.The famous 'Gapminder' visualization, referenced in Jock and Robert's paper.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that much of the Tableau research team is focused on storytelling. We see it as a pillar of seeing and understanding your data; ultimately, you want to share your insights with others in a way that they can understand and make decisions based off of. In fact, this is particularly why we're working on the upcoming Tableau 8.2 feature, Story Points, which we announced at TCC13.
