Win a trip to DC and a chance at $2,000 & an iPad

"I believe that the community - in the fullest sense: a place and all its creatures - is the smallest unit of health and that to speak of the health of an isolated individual is a contradiction in terms." -Wendell Berry

The communities we belong to do a lot to shape who we are and what our lives are like. That is why our theme for the second contest in our Iron Viz series is CIVIC DATA! We want you to use Tableau Public to visualize data about your community: civic engagement, political participation, volunteering, education, well-being or anything related to your community, whether that means your neighborhood, city, country, or the whole world.

Civic Data Challenge

For this contest, Tableau is partnering with the Civic Data Challenge. If you are a U.S. resident, please consider using the data sets from the Civic Data Challenge and submitting your viz to them as well! Learn more about the Civic Data Challenge.

The Data

You are free to use whatever datasets you think are relevant to the contest. Here is a list of data resources you can use.

A 3-day trip to Washington DC and a chance to win $2,000 & an iPad

The winner chosen by our judges will also take away a free roundtrip ticket to DC and entry to the 2013 Tableau Customer Conference. This includes a 3 night stay in Washington DC and a chance to compete in the Iron Viz championship against the winners of our two other contests. The winner of Iron Viz will take away a new iPad, and $2,000.

Cash for the Crowd Favorite

Each submission will have a unique hashtag that anyone can use to vote for that viz as Crowd favorite. Send out the link and hashtag to your family and friends. And be sure to check out all the vizzes in the competition and vote for your favorite! The entry with the most votes will take home a $500 gift card.

A Special Prize Just for Students

Here at Tableau, we love students! That's why we are putting together a special prize package filled with Tableau swag. You'll take home all kinds of Tableau goodies like t-shirts, koozies, notebooks, and more!

Who can enter?

This contest is open to any adult in the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany. Don't live in one of those countries? We haven't forgotten you! We are expanding to other countries for our other contests this year, but the legal requirements take time to compile. In the meantime, our apologies!
