Harvard Medical School Faculty Members at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Choose Tableau Software’s Visual Analytics for Drug Safety Data

The Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital has selected Tableau Software to see and understand data in new ways. BWH, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston, uses the business intelligence software to analyze drug safety data. The insights they discover are shared in academic journals, at conferences, and with clinicians, policy-makers and others in the healthcare field. BWH chose Tableau based on its ability to easily combine data sources and its ease of use.

Faculty, students and research assistants use Tableau to analyze hundreds of millions of rows of raw data stored in Netezza, SAS and Excel. Real-time filtering capabilities allow for more interactive presentations, while Tableau’s visualization capabilities also lend well to static images when necessary for written reports.

The group at BWH is also using Tableau to geographically visualize data such as healthcare policies by state or county or how a particular drug is being used across the United States.
