According to Gartner’s research, traditional BI and analytics models are being disrupted because more power is shifting from IT into the business. Gartner predicts that the rise of data discovery, access to multi-structured data, data prep tools and smart capabilities will further democratize access to analytics and stress the need for governance.
Each year, Gartner analysts talk to hundreds of users and vendors in the BI and analytics space. At the end of the year, the analysts synthesize their findings to make predictions for the next year. In 2015, Gartner predicts that traditional BI and analytics models will continue to be disrupted as more power shifts from IT to the business. Furthermore, this research addresses five key trends developing in BI and analytics, with the overarching theme being that more sophisticated analytics capabilities are accessible against more data sources by more people in organizations than ever before.
Gartner analysts have spent countless hours with end users and vendors in the BI market, and we consider them a leader in forecasting the future of BI. We’re excited to see them mention several emerging areas in the BI and analytics space, such as self-service data integration, smart data discovery and the increasing need for IT-business collaboration. These are all areas Tableau is investing in, so we’re glad to see Gartner affirm our direction.
