Do your analytics tools slow you down or speed you up?

Having the flexibility to quickly adapt to changes, efficiently leverage existing tools and achieve multiple goals with a single program are hallmarks of great marketers. Unfortunately, oftentimes the analytics and reporting systems marketers rely on are exceptionally inflexible and slow.

Why does it take a week to analyze your Salesforce data? A month to create a campaign performance dashboard? Another week to change that dashboard?

Tableau takes the pain out of marketing analytics by allowing you to quickly and easily connect to all of your data and visualize it by dragging and dropping... no scripting required. You can connect to almost any data, including Google Analytics and Salesforce. Watch the video on the right to see how easy it is to drag and drop your data into beautiful visualizations with Tableau.

Learn how EB Lane has accelerated their analytics with Tableau

The oldest marketing agency in the Southwest, EB Lane uses Tableau to improve their client strategies as well as communicate those strategies to clients. As Director of Digital Strategy Shailesh Ghimire explains, “Everything in marketing right now is about how you can leverage data from performance metrics to improve your strategy. A lot of agencies don’t have the capabilities to be able to handle that kind of data.”

With Tableau, EB Lane does. And that’s getting the agency noticed —- and helping their clients better understand the whys behind EB Lane’s strategic recommendations.

Analyzing Diverse Data

The variety and size of data that is accessible to marketers is expanding daily. This creates a fantastic opportunity for analysis, but also presents the problem of combining multiple different kinds of databases.

Traditionally, combining multiple different databases, like SQL Server and Teradata, would have required an ETL (extract transform and load) project, combining the different sources in a common database. The problem is that ETL projects often take months and require considerable investment.

More commonly, marketers who needed to analyze multiple datasources would attempt to export both of those sources into a common format like a CSV and then analyze them together in Excel. Unfortunately exporting is unscalable and incompatible with larger datasources. Luckily, there is another method for combining multiple datasources: Data Blending. See Tableau in Action

The visualization to the right is an example of a Tableau dashboard created with Facebook data. It shows the number of people reached over time and then compares the various posts by several metrics.

You can create dashboards similar to this with many tools, but Tableau combines amazing visuals with a rich capability to analyze multiple marketing datasources. You can connect directly to all of the sources you value most, including Google Analytics, Salesforce.com, SQL Server, and even unstructured databases like Hadoop.

The best part? You can combine all of these datasources together to get a cohesive picture of your entire marketing team. Creating a visualization takes only minutes and can help you answer questions quicker and more efficiently than you ever have before.
