Tableau Accelerator Algorithm Support

The Tableau TACC1441 Hardware Accelerator is based on a matrix of re-configurable logic which can be re-targeted at numerous kinds of compute-intensive applications.

Password recovery is the first application for which Tableau has developed publicly available algorithms and software support. The following table lists the password recovery attacks currently available, the applications to be used for those attacks, and the expected performance for a single accelerator when running the indicated password attack.

Tableau is constantly adding new hardware accelerator algorithms, and this table will be updated as new algorithms become available.

NOTES:

1. The Office2007 algorithm supports both Office2007 and OneNote.
2. Performance varies with password length for some, but not all, PGP algorithms (Performance for the PGP Disk v4 algorithm is not sensitive to password length). PGP performance is shown for passwords with an average length of 5 characters. For those PGP algorithms which are sensitive to password length, performance will be higher for shorter passwords and lower for longer passwords.
3. WinRAR performance varies with password length. A performance of 1,300 pwd/sec is based on an average password length of 5 characters. Performance will be higher for shorter passwords and lower for longer passwords.
4. In order to validate/test a given RAR password it may be necessary to decrypt the entire RAR file. As RAR files grow beyond a few kilobytes in size, file decryption begins to dominate performance, and the effective passwords / second rate will drop dramatically. In this situation, the Tableau Hardware Accelerator may be idle most of the time. But, if "header encryption" is turned ON for a RAR file, then the passwords / second rate will not decrease with increased RAR file size.
5. PRTK refers to AccessData's Password Recovery ToolkitTM; and DNA refers to AccessData's Distributed Network AttackTM.
6. The table lists performance figures for a single Tableau hardware accelerator. For most algorithms, performance increases linearly with the addition of more accelerators. Tableau suggests reading the Host Computer Selection Guidelines document listed on the TACC1441 product page for more information on using multiple accelerators with a single computer.
