Duke University Turns Data into Insights with Tableau Software
University Plans to Put Tableau in Hands of Students and Faculty
Duke University has adopted Tableau Software to analyze and share internal and external data across a number of departments and schools. The North Carolina institution uses Tableau to gain insights about enrollment, research funding, human resources, financial and many other types of data.
Duke chose Tableau for its usability and ability to combine and connect to different data sources. External databases may be combined with human resources and financial data in SAP or student data stored in PeopleSoft.
“Our executives have already seen tremendous value from Tableau,” said David Jamieson-Drake, Director of Institutional Research at Duke University. “The next step is to democratize data across our institution, making data analysis easily available to thousands of students and faculty members as well as the general public.”
Prior to Tableau, business intelligence data was communicated through PowerPoint and gaining insights required coding. “With Tableau, interacting with our data is fun,” said Jamieson-Drake. “We create visualizations and share them by sending a URL. It’s changed our conversations around data.”
