Tableau Software today announced that an independent survey of the world’s Business Intelligence (BI) companies placed it first among its “Large International vendor” peers. Tableau beat out larger BI rivals such as QlikTech, IBM, Oracle, SAP, MicroStrategy and Microsoft in key performance indicators (KPIs).The BI Survey 12, conducted by the Business Application Research Center (BARC) is the world’s largest survey of end users of business intelligence software.

The BI Survey 12 provides a detailed quantitative analysis of why customers buy business intelligence tools, what they use them for and how successful they are. More than 2,000 respondents’ answers were analyzed. Among “Large International vendors”, Tableau beat out other competitors in nearly every KPI, including business benefits achieved, goal achievement, business achievement, variety of data types, functional scope, user recommendation, collaboration, visual analysis, innovation, vendor support, project length, self-service and agility.

“Tableau came out very well in the BI Survey 12 results,” said Dr. Carsten Bange CEO and founder at BARC. “The survey shows that Tableau’s customers are very happy with the product in a number of KPIs. It’s an accomplishment to beat out some of the world’s largest business intelligence players in these peer groups.”

“The BI Survey 12 validates that our mission to help people see and understand data is working,” said Elissa Fink, Chief Marketing Officer at Tableau Software. “The recommendation and support of our customers comes from their ability to perform their jobs better with Tableau.”

The BI Survey 12 reflects a worldwide sample of the global market for business intelligence products. Approximately 64 percent of its respondents were from European countries, a key area of growth for Tableau.
